NBA players Who have siblings in other major sports leagues
The chances of ever making it to any major sports league are very slim. Yet we’ve seen some families who have had to opportunity to have not just one, but multiple family members make it to the big leagues. For instance, Klay Thompson’s brother Mychal Thompson once had a short stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers before moving on to play in the NBA D League. 1. Malik Monk
The first NBA player on our list is Malik Monk whose brother was a former NFL player. Malik Monk currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers while his brother Marcus Monk once played for the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. Although the two brothers grew up playing basketball together, Marcus was more interested in football.
2. Klay Thompson
Next, we have the Golden State Warrior star Klay Thompson popularly known as the splash brother with Steph Curry. What many don’t know is that Klay Thompson has a brother who once played in the NBA and another brother who is an MLB player. The name of his brother who plays professional baseball is Trayce Thomson and he currently plays for the Chicago Cubs of the MLB.
3. OG Anunoby
The Toronto Raptors player OG Anunoby is another NBA player who has a brother who once played in the NFL. Anunoby and his elder brother Chigbo Anunoby took an unusual path to become professional athletes. Although the two brothers grew up playing soccer, they both stopped almost at the same time to focus on another sport. For Anunoby it was basketball while for his brother it was football.
4. Quentin Grimes
On July 29, 2021, Quentin Grimes was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. His selection was significant because he made history that same day with his brother Tyler Myers as they became the first siblings to play in the NBA and NHL. Myers is a defenceman for the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL. Although Grimes and Myers didn’t grow up together, there is no doubt that the love for sports run through their genes!
5. Lauri Markkenen
The finish basketball player Lauri Markkenen comes from a very athletic family. His parents were former basketball players and he currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His elder brother Eero Markkenen is a soccer player who currently plays as a striker for Orange County SC.
6. Steven Adams
Steven Adams is a New Zealand basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies. He comes from a very athletic family with two older brothers playing professional basketball in New Zealand. He is also the brother to the shot put Olympic Champion, Valerie Adams. Valerie Adams has competed at five editions of the Olympic Games winning two golds, one silver, and one bronze.
7. Shaquille Harrison
Shaquille Harrison who currently plays for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League is one of the few NBA players who have a brother in the MLB. After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, Shaquille remained in the D League before he was signed by the Phoenix Suns. His brother Monte Harrison is making a name for himself as a professional baseball outfielder for the Miami Marlins of the MLB.
8. Toney Douglas
Toney Douglas who last played for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA is one of the few players who have a sibling in the NFL. His elder brother Harry Douglas was a former football wide receiver and he played for the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans. Harry was a basketball star in high school and even though he never played at the professional level, he was the reason why Toney started playing basketball in the first place.
9. Bill Walton
Another NBA player worth mentioning is the basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton. He was selected with the first over pick in the 1974 NBA draft and he had a very successful career. Although Bill Walton and his brother Bruce Walton played basketball together in high school, Bruce would end up playing as an offensive lineman in the NFL. In 1976, they made history by becoming the first set of siblings to ever appear in both the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals.
10. Reggie Miller
The Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller is considered one of the greatest shooters in the history of basketball. Miller became famous for his precision and ability to make difficult shots. Although his famous sibling is his elder sister Cheryl Miller, he also has another brother Darrell Miller who once played in the MLB. Darrell Miller played as a catcher and outfielder from 1985 through to 1988.
